Game of Thrones season 6 episode 9: Kit Harrington on the Daenerys / Jon Snow parallel you may have missed

'He is reborn again'

** Spoilers for Game of Thrones season six episode nine **

It finally happened; the Battle of the Bastards was an hour long epic that toyed with our emotions while delivering a thundering finish featuring horror, gore, and some justice.

The titular battle was, as noted several times, shot beautifully, looking more medieval Hollywood blockbuster than TV program, the details of which are entirely intriguing (such as how *that* epic Jon Snow scene was filmed without CGI).

One thing you may not have noticed is that, when Jon Snow is suffocating under the trampling feet of Wildlings and Boltons, there is a direct comparison to an earlier shot of Daenerys from season’s past.

At the end of season three, the Queen of Dragons adds Breaker of Chains to her name, freeing the slaves of Yunkai, who in turn praise her as “mhysa," which means “mother”.

Speaking about the later scene in the above video, Kit Harrington said: “When the crush starts happening, he slows down, and there’s that thing of peace where he thinks ‘I could just stay here and let it all end.’ And then something drives him to fight on, and that moment when he grasps for, he is reborn again, which I found weirdly reflective of the scene where Danny is held aloft at the end of season three.”

Now, this is interesting for a number of reasons. As many people have pointed out, the colour difference between the two shots - one warm while the other cold - seems a direct parallel to the name of George RR Martin’s books, A Song of Ice and Fire. Is the implication that this entire series perhaps boils down to these two characters?

Any parallel between Jon and Danny has always been intriguing, especially when you consider the two may be relatives (R + L = J). Even if they aren’t the heroes of this story, the pair’s relationship is certainly intriguing and will no doubt play a large role in the seasons to come.
