George Clooney jokes that wife Amal watching ER has been ‘disaster for my marriage’ during cast reunion

‘I forgot all of the terrible things I’d done as Dr Ross,’ actor said

George Clooney has revealed that revisiting ER has led to some awkward moments with his wife.

The actor joined former cast members, including Anthony Edwards, Julianna Margulies and Noah Wyle, for a charity virtual reunion, where he said that Amal Clooney is continuously questioning the actions of his character, Dr Doug Ross.

“This has been a very, very disastrous thing for me because I forgot all of the terrible things I’d done as Dr Ross,” he told members of the show’s cast, which also included Gloria Reuben, Laura Innes and Cch Pounder.

"My wife keeps going, ‘Is that it? Are you done? Season three – do you finally settle down with Nurse Hathaway?’ It’s been a disaster for my marriage."

The event took place thanks to Reuben, who played Dr Jeanie Boulet and assembled the cast for a Stars in the House special for Waterkeeper Alliance.

Of his own views on the long-running show, which began in 1995 and ran for 15 seasons, Clooney said:"I have to say, you know, it’s such great television.”

After Clooney joined the online chat, he told the other stars: “I look at these faces and all of us share a really unique moment in time; we went from obscurity to a very different life, almost overnight. Tony was our fearless leader.”

“It was such an exciting thing to be a part of,” he added.

Clooney starred in the medical drama’s first five seasons from 1995 to 1999.

While ultimately coming good in the end, his character was depicted as a womaniser whose behaviour often took on a toxic light, especially when viewed decades later.

Reflecting on Doug’s actions in an interview with The Independent in December 2020, Clooney said: “When I was on ER, I played a womaniser, and I was a drunk – but he loved kids. At the end [of each episode], I’d be like, ‘Hey, nobody touches that kid!’ so I could get away with doing lots of dastardly things.”
