Gogglebox stars mock Boris Johnson

Gogglebox has divided viewers for showing its many stars mocking Boris Johnson.

The latest episode of the hit C4 show saw the show’s participants watching a clip of the prime minister returning to 10 Downing Street after recovering from coronavirus.

In his address to the UK, Johnson could be seen encouraging people to abide by lockdown rules after “being away from [his] desk longer than [he] wanted”.

Gogglebox stars could then be seen mocking Johnson by re-enacting how he might have acted while in hospital suffering from the illness.

At one stage, Izzy stated: “I would egg him if I was in a disguise and if I could easily get away.”

Some viewers felt the comments were ill-timed, expressing that this is a time to be spreading positivity.

“Always loved Gogglebox but why so much anti-Boris clips in a time when the country should be united and try to find the positives in life rather than looking for someone to blame,” one viewer wrote.

Another said: ”Ellie & Izzy slagging of Boris Johnson, and wanting to egg him, not cool in any way.”

However, others viewers were in approval of the comments.

One person tweeted: “Tonight’s Gogglebox was pure gold. Everyone was on fire and the shows they watched were just gas! Just their take on Boris & Covid make it worth the watch.”

This isn’t the first time the show has come under fire from viewers. In September 2019, Ellie was shown making a controversial remark about #MeToo, which prompted a backlash.

Gogglebox continues every Friday on C4.
