Hitman TV series 'faithful to video game' on the way from John Wick creator and Hulu
Agent 47 is headed to the small screen for the first time
I've long been convinced there's a good film or TV show adaptation in the Hitman franchise. Not necessarily a hugely artful or edifying one, but a slick and thrilling one given that the video game is less about machine gun spray and more about deception and infiltration (not to mention consistently very cool locations).
The two film efforts, 2007's Hitman and 2015's Hitman: Agent 47, were pretty forgettable, but maybe this new TV version will meet the latent potential.
Fox 21 and Hulu have teamed up for a series based on the best-selling IO Interactive game, according to Deadline, set to arrive in 2019.
The creator and writer of John Wick is writing the pilot, Derek Kolstad (who feels like a good fit) also executive producing alongside Hitman film alum. Adrian Askarieh and Chuck Gordon.
Hulu apparently hopes that this will become a flagship series and will 'hew closely to the mythology of the video game' instead of going off-piste as some game adaptations do.
The most recent Hitman game, called simply Hitman, has sold 7 million copies, with two more titles in the franchise in development.
