Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer are coming back to the BBC two years after the corporation axed their surreal panel show Shooting Stars.

The pair will star in a sitcom playing flatmates sharing their home with a stream of unwanted visitors, friends and relatives.

The show, which has a working title of House of Fools, will be on BBC Two next year for six half-hour episodes.

They said: "We're back where we belong and over the moon about making a series of House Of Fools for the BBC."

The show, described by the BBC as "half an hour of unadulterated Reeves and Mortimer", also stars the IT Crowd's Matt Berry and Morgana Robinson.

Shane Allen, controller, head of BBC Comedy Commissioning, said: "Vic and Bob are the daddies of daft comedy and it's a total joy to watch two men in their 50s goof about so gloriously. I'm extremely proud to bring them back to the BBC in this hilarious reincarnation."

The BBC cancelled Shooting Stars, which featured "big baby" scorer George Dawes played by Matt Lucas and team captain "Ulrika-ka-ka-ka-ka" Jonsson, in 2011.
