Jimmy Kimmel renames Donald Trump ‘Uncle Scam’ over $170m fundraising
‘I guess he saw an opportunity to make money!’
Jimmy Kimmel has found a new nickname for Donald Trump: Uncle Scam.
The late-night host unveiled the new moniker on Tuesday in his opening monologue.
The jab followed a report by The New York Times that Trump has raised $170m since the election, which he lost to Joe Biden.
“Uncle Scam has been raking it in,” Kimmel remarked. “He’s reportedly raised $170m doing this since the election. For what? I don’t know. He knows the results aren’t going to be overturned, but I guess he saw an opportunity to make money.”
According to The New York Times, much of the amount was raised within a week of the election. Trump has peddled baseless claims about election fraud in an effort to undermine public trust in the results.
“Maybe that’s the reason he won’t concede,” Kimmel added about Trump’s fundraising. “This is day 28 of Squattergate.”
Attorney General William Barr on Tuesday disputed Trump’s claims of voter fraud in an interview with The Associated Press.
“There’s a growing tendency to use the criminal justice system as sort of a default fix-all,” he said.
Barr referenced spurious claims about election systems, stating at one point: “There’s been one assertion that would be systemic fraud and that would be the claim that machines were programmed essentially to skew the election results. And the DHS and DOJ have looked into that, and so far, we haven’t seen anything to substantiate that.”
