Lost reboot speculation shut down by ABC in least convincing way: 'It's on a list of 'wouldn't that be great if...''

ABC has poured water on any speculation it's to reboot Lost in the near future.

Those hoping for a return to the mystical island filled with hostiles, hatches and Hurley may have had their hopes dashed following the rumour mill going into overdrive when former co-showrunner Carlton Cuse signed a four-year deal with ABC last summer.

Despite this, it's clear it's an avenue the network is interested in exploring one day in the future.

Speaking to TV Line, ABC President Channing Dungey revealed: “We have not had any official discussions about [a Lost revival]. It’s something that’s on a list of, ‘Wouldn’t that be great if… ,’ but at this point it’s only at that place.”

“I haven’t had that conversation with [Cuse] yet,” she added.

Just last year, Cuse was reported as saying: “Damon and I are pretty adamant about the fact that we don’t have any intentions of rebooting Lost. I know that there are a lot of shows that have been rebooted lately, but we are not on that path.“

Cuse wrote Lost alongside co-creator Damon Lindelof until its series finale in 2010. Lindelof went on to oversee HBO's little-seen standout The Leftovers which drew to a conclusion last year after a season many hailed as one of the greatest in recent memory. He'll next tackle an adaptation of Watchmen for the premium cable service.

Speaking about a potential reboot, Cuse said: “[I] hope that when that happens, whoever is doing it, doesn't take the characters from the original Lost and put them in the new one. Because we worked so hard to end that show and to give [the survivors] some level of closure. I know there was some debate as to whether or not there was enough closure.

Lost changed the face of network television upon its debut in 2004 running for six seasons and culminating in what could well be the most widely misunderstood series finale of all time - one that the showrunners recently teased almost ended in an altogether more fiery manner.
