Chris Evans and his Top Gear team prepare to go head-to-head with Clarkson's new motoring show

New episodes of Top Gear have been confirmed to stream on Netflix worldwide, putting the BBC reboot in direct competition with Jeremy Clarkson’s rival Amazon Prime series.

Chris Evans is fronting the revamped motoring show with a team including Matt LeBlanc and Sabine Schmitz. It premieres in the UK on 8 May but Netflix is yet to announce when Top Gear will reach its service. Fans are also awaiting a date and title from Amazon Prime, but that show is not expected to stream until some point this autumn.

The shows are already set for rivalry, with much hype surrounding Clarkson’s return following his axing from the BBC in the wake of the widely publicised “fracas”. The presenter will be joined by his former Top Gear co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May.

Netflix has more than 75 million subscribers and chief content officer Ted Sarandos “continuing talks” to make Top Gear available in as many countries as possible.

Netflix’s continuing deal with the BBC enables it to take episodes of Top Gear, with Sarandos revealing that it continues to be “very popular”. “People definitely prefer the British Top Gear over the local Top Gear in almost every country in the world,” he said.

Never mind road rage, let subscription service battle commence.
