Nick Hornby to adapt Nina Stibbe's novel Love, Nina for TV series on BBC One

Author Nina Stibbe has had an unexpected success with her book, Love, Nina

Nick Hornby is to adapt Nina Stibbe’s award-winning book Love, Nina for the small screen.

The five-part BBC One drama will be the first time the Fever Pitch author has written a series for British TV.

Love, Nina, which won the 2014 National Book Award for non-fiction book of the year, is based on the letters Stibbe sent home to her sister in Leicestershire in the Eighties, recounting her time as nanny to the children of Mary-Kay Wilmers, the editor of the London Review of Books.

It features appearances from writers including Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller, who were often invited over to the family’s house in Camden for tea.

Hornby, whose novels include About A Boy and High Fidelity, said: “Love, Nina has already attained the status of a modern classic, and I am so happy that I've been given the opportunity to adapt it. We want to make a series that is as charming, funny and delightful as Nina Stibbe's glorious book.”

Hornby has previously adapted his novel About A Boy for US Network NBC, and written the screenplay to 2009 film An Education.
