Peter Capaldi has been asked to stay on for Doctor Who's series 11. Only asked at this moment; meaning they've not reached the clinging onto his trouser hems and crying into his socks stage of negotiations. Yet.
This follows the news showrunner Steven Moffat will be departing the show in 2018, to be replaced by Chris Chibnall; rumours naturally started to surface Capaldi would follow Moffat, especially after he hinted at a departure after this year.
"I've been asked to stay on, which is lovely - and I think Chris Chibnall's fantastic and a wonderful choice," he continued. "To be perfectly honest, it's so far away in the future... you know, Doctor Who is a very difficult thing to say goodbye to - and I don't want to make that decision right now."
"They've asked me to stay on, so when I am forced to make that decision, I will make it." Sounds exactly how the rest of the world makes any major decision.
Capaldi is still on board for the Doctor Who Christmas 2016 special, followed by a full series in 2017.
