Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington have teamed up on a new project - a TV adaptation of the best-selling book Little Fires Everywhere.

The Big Little Lies star and Scandal stars each had interest in the project and wanted to work on it together.

Written by Celeste Ng, Little Fires Everywhere chronicles the lives of two families in the '90s living in Shaker Heights, Ohio who are connected through their children.

Little Fires Everywhere - which came out last year - became an instant bestseller; it was even Reese's Book Club x Hello Sunshine pick last September.

The adaptation - written by Liz Tigelaar - is currently being pitched to premium and streaming channels, so they aren't tied to any specific network yet.

Both actresses will star in and executive produce the limited TV series through their production companies, Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine and Washington's Simpson Street.

Tigelaar will also be the showrunner of the series and executive produce the show alongside Ng who will serve as producer.

Hello Sunshine has Witherspoon's show Big Little Lies at HBO, which is preparing for Season 2.

Additionally the company has three series slated for Apple including a two-season order of an untitled morning show drama with Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston as the leads, a comedy starring Kirsten Wiig and Are You Sleeping, which was co-produced by Chernin Entertainment.

Washington's company just got a pilot order for a comedy series called Man of the House starring Alyson Hannigan.

Little Fires Everywhere has developed through ABC Signature - the streaming arm of ABC Studios.

ABC Signature Studios is currently focused on conquering the premium space with current series SMILF on Showtime and Marvel Runaways on Hulu.

The small screen adaptation of Little Fires Everywhere will likely be a big deal for the studio.
