Rio 2016: Gisele to be ‘mugged’ during Olympics opening ceremony in brutally honest depiction of Rio de Janeiro life
The thief will be chased around the stadium by police
While London 2012 went for grandiose depictions of the Industrial Revolution in its opening ceremony, Rio 2016 will playfully show the darker side of life in its city by having supermodel Gisele Bundchen mugged as she walks down the catwalk.
The details leaked from dress rehearsals attended by thousands at Maracana stadium, the robbery forming part of a section on the urbanisation of Brazil, MailOnline reports.
After mugging Gisele, the thief will apparently be chased around the 78,000 seater stadium by fake police.
Other more positive segments in the opening ceremony will look back at the history of Brazil, involving music, dance, 3D projections and a flyover by replica 14 Bis, the biplanes invented by Brazilian aviation pioneer Santos Dumont.

Show all 8'It will be a reinterpretation of Brazil,' director Leonardo Caetano told the BBC of the ceremony, which has a considerably smaller budget than London’s. 'We will have a moment in which we will show... the Brazilian way of receiving people. The second is the 'Garden'. Brazil lives on the largest green reserve in the world and this is an important issue for us.”
400,000 hours have gone into preparation for the ceremony, which will take place in Rio on Friday night.
