The Queen’s alleged criticism of The Crown is ‘damning’, says Matt Smith
Monarch was reportedly upset with husband’s depiction in second season of Netflix show
The Crown star Matt Smith has described the Queen’s alleged criticism of the show as “damning”.
Despite the Queen being “reasonably impressed” with series one about the early years of her reign, this did not extend to season two, according to an August report in The Sun.
The monarch was allegedly “upset” with the episode of The Crown set at Gordonstoun school, which showed Prince Philip being callous to Prince Charles.
“Wow,” said Smith, who played Prince Philip in the Netflix hit. “That’s damning, isn’t it?” he told The Times.
On how much truth there was to the episode, Smith added: “The royal family are clever at never letting you know anything. They say nothing and navigate everything, and all we do is speculate. I don’t know... But it’s cool she’s watching it.”
The forthcoming third series of the show will see Tobias Menzies take on an older Prince Charles, opposite Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II.
The Crown series three will premiere on Netflix on 17 November 2019.
