HBO crime series The Night Of reimagined with Ryan Lochte by writer of Fast and Furious Hitler spin-off

'Based on true events. Or not. No one is really sure about the exact details'

Earlier on this year, writer Jordan VanDina proposed an idea for a Fast & Furious spin-off - namely Hitler-centred Fast Nein: The Fast and the Führer.

He's put pen to page once again, this time reimagining HBO miniseries The Night Of with American swimmer Ryan Lochte, the Olympian recently caught in a media storm after lying about being robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro

Lochte has since apologised for fabricating events he claimed took place during his time in Brazil stating he had merely "over-exaggerated" the story.

VanDina's extremely tongue-in-cheek screenplay begins: "Based on true events. Or not. No one is really sure about the exact details."

The 62-page script features Marcia Clark, the prosecutor played by Sarah Paulson in American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson as well as Lochte's record-holding teammate Michael Phelps. Even The Night Of character Khan shows up.

HBO's The Night Of stars John Turturro as John Stone, a lawyer representing Nazir Khan (Riz Ahmed), a student accused of murdering a girl in New York City.

The eight-part miniseries - a passion project of Sopranos actor James Gandolfini who passed away in 2013 - is an adaptation of BBC series Criminal Justice. It will air in the UK on Sky Atlantic next month.
