The new season of Twin Peaks has experienced a bit of a rocky production, but today we get some concrete good news.

“I’m excited to tell you that David Lynch is now more than halfway through his shooting schedule, and the limited series will premiere in the first half of 2017,” Showtime president and CEO David Nevins said during a TCA presentation on Tuesday.

2017 was initially the plan, then it looked like we might get the new instalments in 2016 for a while, but now it is firmly locked down to spring 2017.

Lynch is directing all of the episodes from one long script he wrote with fellow Twin Peaks creator Mark Frost, according to Deadline.

The Mulholland Drive director is shooting the series continuously as a movie and plans to carve it up into episodes at a later date - probably nine of them though this has yet to be confirmed.

Nevins visited the show’s editing room and watched 24 minutes of footage, which he described as “stupendous”.
