Tyra Banks has been announced as the new host of Dancing with the Stars following the departure of longtime presenters Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.

The America’s Next Top Model star will join the US version of Strictly Come Dancing for its forthcoming 29th season, and will also serve as an executive producer on it.

“I’ve been a fan of DWTS since its beginning,” Banks said, via People. “The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances ...it’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk.

“Tom has set a powerful stage, and I’m excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats.”

Banks joins DWTS just two days after it was announced that the show was moving in a “new creative direction” and Bergeron and Andrews would not be returning to the long-running competition series.

The news was announced by Bergeron on Monday (13 July), who tweeted: “Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me. It’s been an incredible 15-year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made.

“That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?”

Bergeron had presented the show since its first season in 2005, while Andrews joined in 2014.
