X Factor judges channel Game of Thrones in new advert

The commercial will air on ITV tonight ahead of The X Factor's return

The judges often take centre stage on The X Factor – so it may come as no surprise that the promo for the new series is set to be of epic proportions.

Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Louis Walsh ad Mel B will appear tonight in an advert for the singing competition, which is reportedly based on hit HBO series Game of Thrones.

The new commercial was filmed at Pinewood Studios using state-of the-art CGI and is the most expensive in the show’s 10-year history, according to The Sun.

The newspaper reported that it took more than a week to make.

Images from the shoot show the judges flanked by backing performers against a green screen, as if preparing to go to war.

In one shot former Spice Girl Mel B appears to be issuing a battle cry.

The advert can be seen on ITV tonight before The X Factor returns on Saturday 30 August.

The fourth season of Game of Thrones, based on George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, finished earlier this year.

The fifth season is expected to air in 2015.
