Mike Carroll, fund-raising manager for St Mungo's, the charity for single homeless people, on Channel 4's 'Gimme Shelter' season: 'The repeat of Cathy Come Home was probably the most powerful aspect - especially for people working for the homeless. The housing movement has picked up barnacles of doctrine that this film might have helped it to shed; it reminded us why we all got involved in the first place. And perhaps it will attract a new generation to the movement. I was disappointed that practitioner charities - such as ourselves - as opposed to campaigning charities were not able to put their points of view. As regards the homeless themselves, they have lost faith in the ability of the media to alter their situation. But I hope the season will have brought more tolerance, and even some affection for people on the street.'
