Climate change festivities and activities start in Copenhagen

Just as the UN Climate Change Conference starts in Copenhagen, so do the various celebrations and public events that congregate under the banner of Hopenhagen LIVE. A collection of specially designed houses currently based in City Hall Square open their doors to reveal exhibitions, innovations, and designers which all make possible a greener future.

Both Gro Harlem Brundtland, who is the Special Envoy on Climate Change for the UN Secretary General, and Copenhagen's Lord Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard will speak to the crowds on a night hosted by Danish stage and screen actor Peter Jorde.

As well as the exhibitions and talks, a night of music has been put on by Danish music acts, including such local luminaries as prize-winning jazz percussionists Marilyn Mazur and Alex Riel, experimental multi-genre band Ibrahim Electric, and Annisette Hansen, a long-standing member of psychedelic rock group The Savage Rose, whose vocal style was influential on a young Kate Bush.

Various films will be shown throughout the conference's span by Hopenhagen LIVE, including The Age of Stupid on Tuesday, The Yes Men Fix The World on Friday, Earth Days on Sunday 13, and Climate of Change from the production company behind Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth on Monday 14.

There are also live performances scheduled from electronic dance musician Mike Sheridan, Catholic-Islamic hip hop group Outlandish, and prominent gypsy-punk band Gogol Bordello.
