After almost five years of waiting, Harmonix have finally got the band back together. The long rumoured Rock Band 4 was announced earlier today along with some exciting news for fans of the series.

The game will be the first Rock Band game to grace the latest generation of consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Harmonix, who have also developed music games Dance Central and Fantasia: Music Evolved, stated how they intend to allow previously purchased content from other Rock Band games to be playable in Rock Band 4, in total making a catalogue of over two thousand songs available.

The developers have also said they are working with Sony and Microsoft to bring the previous generation’s plastic guitars and drum kits to the next generation of consoles.

If you did happen to miss out on the plastic peripheral phenomena first time round, a new set of guitars and drums will be available to buy, once again made by Mad Catz.

Harmonix has emphasised that they want Rock Band 4 to be the only game in the series on this generation of consoles. Previously, the series has been released in annual instalments, starting with the original Rock Band in 2007 and finishing with Rock Band 3 in 2010. Various spin offs were also released including Lego Rock Band and The Beatles: Rock Band.

Cards Against Humanity revealed earlier today that they are choosing one of the songs to be featured on the game, tweeting:

General reactions on Twitter have been mainly positive, while some have said fans should learn to play “real” instruments.
