Childless couple adopt gorilla

French zoo managers Pierre and Elaine Thivillon adopted Digit, a 13-year-old gorilla, at birth when her mother refused to breast-feed her. Digit spends her days in a zoo but returns home every evening with her "mum and dad", sharing a bed with the childless couple. They plan to set up a gorilla sanctuary for their 120kg house guest, pictured with Elaine.
