Tottenham Hotspur have resumed talks with Andre Villas-Boas over their vacant manager's position. The former Chelsea manager is interested in replacing Harry Redknapp but had thought he was no longer the preferred candidate.

The first contact between Tottenham and representatives of Villas-Boas was last week, according to sources in Portugal. Spurs gauged the interest of Villas-Boas (above), who has been out of work since he was dismissed by Chelsea in March after just eight months in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Villas-Boas's camp told Tottenham that he was interested in the job but the 34-year-old former Porto coach soon feared that he was no longer Spurs' first choice.

Tottenham have also spoken to France national team manager Laurent Blanc, currently working at the European Championship, although with a contract that expires at the end of the tournament.

On Monday, though, Tottenham spoke with the Villas-Boas camp again, renewing hopes he might replace Redknapp. Villas-Boas returns from a holiday in Fiji to Portugal today; his agent Carlos Goncalves is already in London on other business.
