This year, The Independent's Christmas appeal will support The Felix Project – a charity fighting food poverty with food waste.

For every £1 donated, The Felix Project delivers £8 worth of fresh and nutritious food, which would have ended up as landfill, to those who need it the most.

Now the charity wants to take aim at those most directly affected by food poverty and deliver fresh food directly to primary schools. All the money raised will be used to help deliver produce, collected from more than 90 food retailers, directly into schools where it will be displayed on market stalls for families to access.

The campaign will fight to give every child a deserving start and make sure hunger does not stand in the way of their future.

£1 donated will ensure a primary school child and their family have the food needed for a nutritious meal. £500 will enable a new school to be recruited to the programme.
