What's her love of Switzerland got to do, got to do with it?

Renouncing her US citizenship, Tina Turner is on the point of becoming a Swiss citizen. The 73-year-old singer has lived there since 1995, when she moved to join her long-term partner, Erwin Bach, a German record executive. The two live in the picturesque town of Küsnacht on the shores of Lake Zurich. A public announcement confirmed that Turner had passed a local civics test and interview, but she still requires approval from state and federal authorities.

Simply the best?

She clearly thinks so. She told the German newspaper Blick: "I'm very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here. I cannot imagine a better place to live." She is not the only singer to enjoy muesli and emmental: Phil Collins and Shania Twain, as well as the former 007 Roger Moore, have homes in the country.

Nutbush City Limits?

The news was met with shock in the singer's hometown. Jo Matherne, the Mayor of nearby Brownsville, said she was "surprised". "Tina Turner - as she has gotten worldwide fame - has never forgotten her roots… Anytime a person, whether they're world-renowned or the most meek and mild, makes the decision to change their citizenship we need to step back and think what causes that decision."
