Muscular powerboats to tear across Abu Dhabi's seafront
Eleven of the world's most muscular competitive powerboats will return to the United Arab Emirates on November 19 to contest the three-day-long Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in an event that's free to view for anyone finding themselves on the waterfront, and broadcast on major sports networks worldwide.
VIP seating is reserved for teams and special guests, but there are excellent views available all along the waterfront area known as the Corniche, and in particular near the prominent UAE flag at the start/finish line.
The event will be fifth of the six-stage World Powerboat Championship series that started in April and, after haven taken in Qatar, Norway, Romania and Italy along the way, will conclude in the neighboring emirate of Dubai midway through December.
As up to 20 points are available for podium-placed drivers, the season is not yet wrapped up and boats will be jostling for first place. Though safety has been drastically improved since the sport's emergence in the 1980s, plenty of thrills and spills are on offer as shown at the recent Italian Grand Prix - two boats collided on a tight turn, but both drivers are expected to be in good health for Abu Dhabi.
Broadcasting rights have been allocated to various international sports channels, including the IKO, Canal+, Sky, and Eurosport networks.
