Fewer than 10 African countries are connected to the Internet, and 70 per cent of the network's host computers are based in the US, says a new report from the independent Panos Institute, which warns of an impending age of "information poverty" for the developing world.
Entitled Superhighway or Dirt-Track?, the report points out differences between industrialised and developing countries in terms of access to computers and telecoms. Further details can be found on http://www. oneworld.org/panos/.
