Viswanathan Anand was the only winner in the first round of the Linares super-grandmaster tournament when he beat Alexei Shirov. The games Kramnik-Ivanchuk and Svidler-Kasparov ended in draws. Here are the moves of Anand's win. White's 31.Rxc4? was either very poor judgement or an oversight, letting Black win two rooks for his queen. Anand then gave a good demonstration of how to use the rooks to pick off White's pawns.
