A female reporter who described herself as “a chunky girl “ whilst presenting Hurricane Irma coverage was met with a heart-warming response championing body positivity from news anchor Don Lemon.

Sara Snider was reporting live from Daytona Beach on Monday morning and mentioned her size to explain just how strong the winds were.

“What we’re also seeing is a lot of projectiles, you’ve been hearing from everyone that that’s the danger here. The things that cover the lights are flying around. The tops of trash cans flying around.

“And this wind — I am not a small woman, as you know, Don. I am a chunky girl, and it is blowing me around when the gusts come really, really hard,” the TV presenter said.

Lemon sweetly smiled and responded: “You’re a beautiful woman no matter what size you are. There’s nothing wrong with having a little curve.”

Viewers took to Twitter to offer their praise for Lemon, who has since racked up a number of loyal fans.

“As a fellow 'chunky' girl, THANK YOU Don Lemon. P.S. Sara Sidner, you are BEAUTIFUL!” one Twitter user wrote, whilst another referred to him as a “class act.”

However, Daily Show host Trevor Noah was slightly more critical of Lemon’s remark, after they showed the clip on air.

“Okay, that was a bit weird because, uh… Don Lemon, that report said nothing about being beautiful… I wished the camera would have cut back to Sara [Sidner] to respond like, ‘Yeah Don, I never said I wasn’t beautiful.’”
