No charge for AOL trial offer
Granville Olive is being rather unfair to AOL (e-mail, 23 September). The trial offer is quite definitely free; AOL says that it won't charge your credit card for the free trial period, and it won't.
A little while ago I took up AOL on its offer and let it have my credit card number. Subsequently, having decided not to stay with them, I terminated my account before the trial period expired. I have not been charged anything. It so happens that AOL aren't very good and I wouldn't want to stay online with them - but that's another story.
As for seeing the Independent without using AOL, buy it at a newsagent.
