London was awash with glitz and glamour on Monday evening for the annual Fashion Awards, which celebrates the established designers and emerging talents whose contributions have been shaking up the industry in the past year.

More than 4,000 guests gathered in the Royal Albert Hall for the British Fashion Council’s soirée, which saw the likes of Kim Jones, Dame Vivienne Westwood and Kaia Gerber recognised for their achievements.

The Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance on the night as she joined actor Rosamund Pike on stage to present the award for best womenswear designer of the year to Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller, who designed her wedding gown.

Elsewhere, Lana Del Rey presented Gucci with the prestigious brand of the year award, while photography duo Mert and Marcus were honoured with the Isabella Blow award for fashion creator, which was presented by Kate Moss and Penelope Cruz.

Demna Gvasalia won accessories designer of the year for his work at Balenciaga; Craig Green took home the gong for British menswear designer of the year; and Pierpaolo Piccoli landed the title of designer of the year for his work at Valentino, having overseen the creative direction of the luxury Italian label for eight years.

As for emerging talents, recognition went to Samuel Ross of A-COLD-WALL and Richard Quinn, who is renowned for his colourful prints and outlandish silhouettes that have been worn by everyone from Amal Clooney to Adwoa Aboah. Quinn made headlines at London Fashion Week in February when the Queen was photographed sat in the front row of his show.

The inaugural trailblazer award went to British-born designer Kim Jones in honour of his rejuvenation of Dior menswear and Marco Bizzarri won business leader of the year for his work as the CEO Gucci, which continues to thrive under the artistic direction of Alessandro Michele.

Dame Vivienne Westwood was joined on stage by Jerry Hall, who presented the eccentric British designer with the Swarovski award for positive change in light of Westwood’s passion for climate change activism.

Other winners on the night included environmental nonprofit Parley for the Oceans, which has collaborated with Stella McCartney and Adidas, luxe streetwear label Off-White and Miuccia Prada, who won the outstanding achievement award for her long-standing contributions to the fashion industry.

Kendall Jenner, Winnie Harlow and Victoria Beckham were among the famous names in attendance while Robert Pattinson, Saoirse Ronan and Douzten Kroes took to the stage to present some of the biggest awards.
