Audrey Hepburn is officially Britain’s style icon – 22 years after her death

David Beckham also beats wife Victoria and Kate Moss in the list of most stylish celebrities

A nationwide poll has named iconic actress Audrey Hepburn as the most stylish Brit of all time, followed by Princess Diana, Duchess of Cambridge, Twiggy and David Beckham.

While everything trending at the moment might feel like it lies around the Kardashians, Kendall Jenner or Cara Delevingne, a new poll reveals what the country really finds stylish on men and women – and no, it’s not a mini skirt or that hot pants of yours.

The Great British Style Audit poll surveyed 2,000 Britons, and revealed that the movie star from the sixties is still the country’s favourite style icon, while proving there’s an on-going affair with the royal family and following for former football star David Beckham, who’s the highest place male on the list of the country’s most stylish celebrities. Beckham is followed by his wife and singer-turned-fashion-designer Victoria, and Kate Moss.

The other male figures to be included in the list are Sean Connery, first actor to play James Bond, and British music icon David Bowie.

However, some current film stars seem to be at their fashion peak too, including British TV host, model and musician Myleene Klass, Gone Girl actress Rosamund Pike and actor Tom Hardy.

According to the poll, what makes a person stylish is a “good haircut, smart shoes and a coat/jacket”, plus a good make-up for her and facial hair for him. On the other hand, the least attractive fashion trends were the hot pants and miniskirts on women and ponytails and skinny jeans on men.

“Timeless elegance and style are qualities that are common throughout the top ten; great style will always be in fashion whatever the era or situation,” said Ines van Gennip, Marketing Director of IT & Mobile at Samsung.

Also, the poll has also highlights the role fashion and sense of style play in the British society, as 59% of those surveyed said that “being fashionable is an important part of making a good first impression”. Also that we all hit our style peak closer to our forties, with men being more fashionable at 37 and women at 36.
