Green is back in fashion and is part of current menswear collections
Alexander McQueen and Burberry Prorsum have brought the khaki and olive shades back to the grey season
This season, the colour green made a welcome return to menswear, as labels such as Alexander McQueen, Burberry Prorsum and Gucci use bottle green, khaki, olive and moss to stand out in a sea of greys and blues.
But here’s the issue, for me at least: the majority of this garb was firmly rooted in uniform. And wearing clothes that have even a whiff of the armed forces about them has the unfortunate result of making me look like Goldie Hawn in Private Benjamin. So when it comes to a new winter coat, I tread carefully. I may well go green, but I’ll be avoiding the epaulette at all costs.
Wear it's at: Green is good
Show all 6If money were no object, I’d pull out the big guns and splurge on this Gucci coat. But back in the real world, I’ll splash my cash on a parka from Whistles instead. If putting your green credentials behind something as large as a coat takes you too far out of your comfort zone, then layer a green knit over a denim shirt, or use colour just on your bottom half with a pair of dark-green trousers.
A much simpler way to go green this season is with your accessories. I have a bit of a thing for backpacks and this one is not only the right shade of green but is as functional as a backpack should be. As I’m follically challenged, hats are essential when the temperature plummets. If you opt for a beanie, please make sure it fits. Too much room at the top and you’ll look like a garden gnome.
If you’re not convinced, turn your home green instead: succulents are having a moment. Not only are they on trend when it comes to colour, they’re low maintenance, too. How green is that?
