We love: Notting Hill newbie

Shopping for summer clothing just became a little easier – if you live in west London, that is – with the opening of a new store for Austique. Based in Notting Hill, the boutique will stock great brands including Zimmermann and Alice + Olivia.

79-81 Ledbury Road, London W11

We’re not sure about: Flannel 2.0

It appears washcloths are enjoying a resurgence. The latest version, called Dermaflannel, is scarily described as a chemical peel in a flannel with microfibres that will help to tackle acne, scars, fine lines and liver spots.

We’re buying: Jeanius

TheLBD is old hat; meet the new wardrobe staple – the little black jeans. Premium denim label J Brand has teamed up with Selfridges to introduce a special collection of three black skinny-jean styles with luxury details to coincide with the opening of the store’s new Denim Studio this week.

We can’t wait for: Hats-off

We’re under starter’s orders for Royal Ascot later this month, but with it comes the scary prospect of choosing the right titfer. Trust Fenwick to come to the rescue and wash our worries away with workshops from leading milliners William Chambers, Rosie Olivia and Piers Atkinson.

We’re visiting: Photographic field trip

Fans of surrealist image-maker Tim Walker would do well to take a trip to Country Durham to view Dreamscapes, a new exhibition of his work. The show will see his images displayed in light boxes.

The Bowes Museum, DL12 8NP, adults: £9.50; until 1 September, thebowesmuseum.org.uk
