Victoria’s Secret Show 2014: Facts and figures behind the lingerie extravaganza

It's one of the biggest catwalk show on Earth, but what are the numbers behind the production

The 19th Victoria’s Secret show took place in London this week, which saw the Angels storming the capital.

This is the first time the lingerie extravaganza has been held in the UK and the second time it comes to Europe (a show took place in Cannes in 2010).

This year’s show is officially the biggest show yet. Here are some facts and figures from the 2014 show:

  1. It had around 3,000 guests, but 500 million people from across 185 countries are expected to tune into the event.

  2. 47 models took part, featuring 81 looks.

  3. Thirty nine pairs of painstakingly handcrafted wings were created for the runway, including a pair made of 18k gold by celebrated artist Serkan and worn by supermodel Karlie Kloss.

  4. For the first time ever there were two fantasy bras, each worth $2m (approx. £1.2m), featuring over 16,000 rubies, sapphires and diamonds in 18k gold. They were worn by Angels Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio, who walked the catwalk together. These, however, are not the most expensive bras in Victoria's Secret's history- in 2010, Gisele Bundchen wore a bra set worth $15 million (approx. £9.5m).

  5. There were 10 hand-painted outfits this year.

  6. There was one Swarovski look, which had 150,000 crystals, and was worn by Angel Lily Donaldson.

  7. There were 25 make-up artists, 25 hairstylists and nine manicurists for the 47 models.

  8. The catwalk was 100 feet and was covered in glitter.

  9. The models crossed the Atlantic in a private Boeing 767 (VS branded) to come to the show in London.

  10. There were 210 hair products, all Victoria’s Secret pink bottles, backstage.

  11. It takes about 20 minutes for the make-up of each model and about an hour for the hairstyle – All this to achieve a “very natural, beautiful look”.

  12. Three different hair products were used on each model (hair spray, serum and volumizer), but the amount of make-up used depends on the Angel. Model Jacquelyn Jablonski said: “There’s no really x amount of lotion, x amount of mascara. Whatever makes the girls look beautiful, they do it according to each girl.”

  13. There’s a tanning room. Angel Dave Windsor said: “We get a glittery tanning lotion on right in there [pointing at a tiny squared room with pink curtains] as a pre thing.”
