If you’re in the midst of a beauty rut there’s nothing quite like scouring the latest catwalk shows for a little inspiration.

But, while warmer weather typically indicates a steady slew of no-makeup makeup looks, this season the runways have something more creative on offer.

Traditionally, jet black eyeliner is considered more of an autumn/winter beauty look, but for spring/summer 2018 more contemporary takes on the feline flick were seen across the board.

Alas, it’s time to shun cat eyes that simply hug the lash line in favour of something thicker, bolder and more dramatic than usual.

Where you look for inspiration for your new era liner will depend entirely on how experimental you’re feeling.

For the more reserved, Monse’s double lines and negative space wings are a great way to tap into the trend without too much skill, while Versus Versace’s Amy Winehouse-inspired feline flicks came graphic, overdrawn and imperfect.

Alternatively, those looking for something more radical should look to Lanvin, where shapes were created at the corner of the eyes using drinking straws dipped in MAC Chromacake, Eudon Choi’s freehand and deliberately wobbly outlines or Tom Ford’s thumb print eyeliner which finished with a rounded tip.

The bottom line here is that anything is possible. You can be as brace and as bold as you like, so make the most of it and have fun.

The type of formula you invest in will also depend on which look you’re going for.

Fancy something sharp and detailed? Then a classic liquid liner pen or gel will do the trick.

However, if you prefer the lived-in look that’s a bit messy and irreverent, pencils and crayons are your best bet
