Phrases like 'the age of social media' and 'insta-generation' are thrown around these days, so much so that Interview magazine has decided to dedicate a whole issue to it.

The September issue of the prestigious magazine has just been unveiled, featuring the world's most powerful social media personalities each posing in a selfie for their own dedicated cover.

Victoria Beckham, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Zayn Malik and photographer Mert Alas are the 8 personalities chosen to front the issue.

The magazine describes how the stars were given "total creative freedom over their images" which are all self-portraits (or selfies if you'd prefer).

The result is a selection of candid shots, with varying degrees of 'pose' - Lopez appears looking characteristically glamorous, whilst Kardashian and Cyrus' were snapped via Facetime to get a more natural result.

"We definitely encouraged them to push the limits," commented editor-in-chief Kevin Pollock.

"But we weren't interested in steering them in any way. Our aim was to allow them to create an image that reflects the way the subjects see themselves. And the way they want to be seen."

And that's not all, because the magazine which was founded by Andy Warhol, features a further 150 images of social media stars all in self-styled shots.

The impressive list includes designers Riccardo Tisci, Stefano Gabbana and Stella McCartney; models Kendall Jenner, Miranda Kerr and Adriana Lima plus many more.
