More than two-thirds of women would wear jeans to a wedding, a survey suggested today.
The poll found most females believed denim was acceptable dress for most occasions - apart from job interviews and funerals.
A total of 69% of those questioned said they would wear designer jeans to a formal wedding, compared with 10% who said they would not and 21% who replied "maybe".
Jeans were given the thumbs up for trips to the theatre by 88% of respondents, while more than three-quarters (78%) said they would wear them to an up-market restaurant.
A quarter (28%) said they would wear designer denim to a job interview compared with 62% who would not, and 62% also said they would not wear jeans to a funeral, the survey for Wizard Jeans revealed.
Sally Allen, of Wizard Jeans, said jeans had evolved over the last 50 years from workwear and casual clothing to fashionable formal wear for "virtually all occasions".
"But it seems that some still hesitate to wear them for job interviews and, perhaps unsurprisingly, to funerals where they are undoubtedly seen as too frivolous and flippant," she added.
