The Oscars is traditionally the biggest night of the year in Hollywood, boasting a guestlist that reads like a who's who in the entertainment business - and the 2015 ceremony did not disappoint.

Whilst the evening may be all about celebrating the best in the movie business - it's the dresses that all too often take centre stage.

From Audrey Hepburn's Givenchy gown in the 1950s to Gwyneth Paltrow's pink Ralph Lauren number in the 90s - some of the most iconic dresses have appeared on the Oscars red carpet.

For the evening's attendees and of course the award nominees, months of preparation has gone into getting the look exactly right for what is the most glamorous red carpet in the world.

Read our full roundup here of who wore what at the 2015 Oscars:

Early arrivals saw Ugly Betty star America Ferrera in a green Grecian-style gown by Jenny Packham and Anna Kendrick who opted for a coral halterneck design by Thakoon.

Margot Robbie opted for a low-cut black dress by Saint Laurent with the addition of an opulent necklace. Cate Blanchett also used the addition of colour-pop jewellery to jazz up a simple black Margiela shift dress.

Lady Gaga attended in a custom made gown by Alaia, the first dress ever made by the designer especially for the awards ceremony. The white beaded number was actually quite understated for the singer, even with the addition of red gloves.
