Should Cadbury Eclairs belong in Heroes boxes? Twitter erupts in fierce debate

‘Annual reminder that anyone who defends Eclairs as a worthy Miniature Hero is 100 per cent going to hell’

For every household that celebrates Christmas, becoming embroiled in heated debates with friends and family is an unavoidable tradition.

While the most popular topics of contention this year will most likely be Brexit, Donald Trump and whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas film, another significant subject has been discussed at length on Twitter.

The dispute was instigated by writer Stuart Heritage, who was enraged by the inclusion of a certain chewy confectionery in Cadbury Heroes boxes.

“Annual reminder that anyone who defends Eclairs as a worthy Miniature Hero is 100 per cent going to hell,” he tweeted.

He explained that he doesn’t think Eclairs are worthy of being included in the collection, especially when pitted against other chocolates.

“Further proof. Look at the descriptions of each individual Miniature Hero,” he wrote.

“Dairy Milk: ‘Legendary’. Twirl: ‘Wonderfully’. Fudge. ‘Fabulously’. I wonder what word they’ve chosen for Eclair.

“‘Chewy’. That’s the best they could find. Not a superlative. Not an intensifier. A baldly prosaic descriptor. ‘Chewy’. ‘CHEWY’. Die forever Eclair. End thread.”

Cadbury Heroes, previously known as Miniature Heroes, have been around for almost two decades.

The boxes contain miniature versions of the confectionery company’s chocolates, with favourites including Dairy Milk, Wispa and Twirl.

However, as many people have pointed out, the Eclairs featured in the Heroes range aren’t any smaller than normal.

“Eclairs are not miniature versions of larger chocolate bars so they do not belong in Miniature Heroes. End of,” one person wrote.

“If an Eclair is a Miniature Hero, SHOW ME A NORMAL SIZED ONE THEN,” another person passionately commented.

Several of the chocolate aficionados in Heritage’s mentions also expressed their dislike for the tough texture of Eclairs.

“I’m with Stu. Last time I ate an Eclair it resulted in £250 of dental work,” someone wrote.

“Too right, they’re nothing more than toffees masquerading as a treat,” another Twitter user added.

Nonetheless, as with any debate, there are two sides to the discussion.

Many people have defended Eclairs, and criticising some of the other chocolates in Cadbury Heroes in turn.

“Eclairs are great,” one person wrote. “The Creme Egg thingy is a travesty. And whoever removed truffles from Celebrations is basically Satan.”

“I love Eclairs. I always scoff the lot,” someone else said. “Bloody finger of fudge is what should not be there.

“Totally a space filler as they always get thrown away.”

One Twitter user revealed how Eclairs had helped them while they were sleeping rough on the streets in the 1980s.

“I was homeless in 1987, and a woman gave me a bag of #chocolateeclairs. They got me through a weekend until I got placed in a homeless shelter. They’re special,” they tweeted.

Will the argument over Eclairs in Cadbury Heroes ever reach a conclusion? As with any subject ardently debated by Brits... unlikely.
