Pret to reopen a further 70 outlets across the UK

Pret A Manger has announced that it is to reopen a further 70 outlets across the UK.

CEO Pan Christou said the additional shops will open from 11 May following a successful trial of 30 stores.

This includes outlets in Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Manchester. The stores will not be open for customers to sit-in, only for takeaway or for deliveries.

In a blog post, Christou wrote: “The Pret experience for both our customers and teams will continue to feel very different.

“For example, each shop will be fitted with Perspex screens at the tills, we will restrict the number of customers in our shops, we’ll provide hand sanitiser for customers, and face coverings to our team members who prefer to wear one.”

Pret was forced to close its doors in March when Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a nationwide lockdown.

The coffee firm is among a number of large chains to begin reopening following a six-week shutdown.

KFC, Burger King and Nando’s have all reopened a number of sites across the UK for delivery only during lockdown.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday fast good giant McDonald’s announced that it was reopening 15 restaurants after it had successfully carried out “operational tests”.

Announcing the move on social media, McDonald’s said the 15 sites will serve local customers “by McDelivery only” from 11am on Wednesday 13 May.

“Rest assured, we are working hard to reopen more restaurants and will keep you updated here as we add more,” the firm said.

“Slowly, but safely we will return to towns and cities across the UK and Ireland and thank you for your continued support as we work through this crisis.”
