This week foodie eyes are on New York City with the release of crowd-sourced top eats (Zagat 2011, Open Table), the announcement of 2011 Michelin-starred restaurants and the opening of the New York City Wine & Food Festival.

Here are some top eats in and around the city to try taken from both the 2011 Red and Burgundy guides as well as Open Table's' weekly "Fit for Foodies, Neighborhood Gems, Most Booked, Best Overall and Best Food" lists:

Street Sweets: http:// www.streetsweetsny.com
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream: http://www.vanleeuwenicecream.com

However the big winner is New York City's trendsetting borough Brooklyn, home to top eats including:
Top barbecue: Fette Sau http://www.fettesaubbq.com/
Top deli: Barney Greengrass http://www.barneygreengrass.com
Top Chinese: Pacificana http://www.sunset-park.com/mall/PACIFICANA/
Top steakhouse (27 years in a row): Peter Luger http://www.peterluger.com/

Plus the Chef's Table inside the food market Brooklyn Fare is the first restaurant in Brooklyn to receive two stars. http://www.brooklynfare.com/ourchef

If dining in New York City is not on your upcoming 'eatineray,' you may want to look for Zagat's 2011 America's Top Restaurants ($15.95/€11.50) to be released on October 27 or Michelin's 2011 Main Cities of Europe guide expected on shelves by mid-March.
