St Halletts Old Block Shiraz 1990, Barossa Valley, pounds 8.49, Australian Wine Centre (in early March). One of the best yet of St Hallett's exuberant shiraz styles, slightly minty, oak aromas and rich peppermint fruit.

Henschke 1990 Riesling, pounds 6.74, Lay & Wheeler, Colchester (0206 764446). Stephen Henschke has transformed the underrated riesling into a delicate, crisp, lime- citrus character with a hint of typical 'petrolly' aroma which will develop further.
