It’s less than a week until Call of Duty: Ghosts hits the shelves so we’ve put together everything you need to know before grabbing your copy.

When is it out?

Call of Duty: Ghosts, Activision’s tenth instalment of the Call of Duty series, is set to be released on 5 November for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Microsoft Windows and Wii U. The next-gen versions of CoD: Ghosts are also being released on 5 November, although the Xbox One and Playstation 4 consoles aren’t set for release until 22 November and 29 November respectively.

Where’s the cheapest place to buy it?

For the current-gen version of the game, the cheapest price on the web across all consoles is £39.75. When it comes to Xbox 360 and Playstation, thegamecollection.net is offering the cheapest, whereas for Wii U, it’s gameseek.co.uk.

If you’re looking to play on PC, simplygames.com is offering CoD: Ghosts for £34.85. And for the next-gen gamers, it’s Amazon who has the best-priced offer, with copies for Xbox One and Playstation 4 currently retailing at £49.

What are the best new features?

As would be expected from a Call of Duty game, the multiplayer section of the game is prominent though that’s not to say that the single player campaign has been ignored.

The solo campaign has gamers playing in a ruined America, after a US kinect bombardment satellite is hijacked by terrorists and turned against the country. The main character goes by the name of Logan, and is accompanied by his brother Hash. The brothers eventually team up with the Ghost squad to fight against an evil superpower simply called “the Federation”.

Call of Duty: Ghosts has players fight as part of the remnants of the US Army, with the eponymous 'Ghost' squad supplemented by Riley, a German Shepherd.

So what’s new? For one, there’s “Squads”. According to Infinity Ward, the game’s developer, Squads comprises a whole new set of modes that don’t really fall into the single-player of multiplayer categories. Players can put together a squad of six different soldiers, either playing with them, or by themselves, against AI controlled enemies. Or, the squad can be made up with up to five other friends to play with online.

There are a number of different game-modes for Squads, including a co-op challenge named Safeguard (inspired by Survival in Modern Warfare 3) where players have to defend themselves against waves of enemies.

Another new feature is Extinction: a co-op mode where up to four players can come together to slay inhuman enemies. It’s similar to Zombies, but now instead of fighting off rotting corpses, players now have to pit themselves against aliens. Set in an eerie Colorado town, the game mode features base defence, customisation of players and class levelling. See below for the trailer.

A number of fan-favourite multiplayer modes make a return to CoD: Ghosts, such as Free for All and Infected. New modes include Search and Rescue and Cranked, with the latter challenging players to get a kill within 30 seconds of being “cranked” to avoid being exploded.

Ghosts includes seven new multiplayer modes, as well as including some the featured in previous titles in the series.
