Games Reviews: BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger
£44.99
Format PS3, Xbox 360
Publisher Zen United
The spiritual successor to classic fighter Guilty Gear, BlazBlue is a refreshing entry into the beat-em-up stable – even featuring a convoluted story-based campaign. Characters are beautifully animated, while special attacks dazzle; it’s easy to get to grips with, too, utilising just four attack buttons. That’s not to say that the fighting system isn’t deep; attacks can be chained and even halted halfway, while the “Heat Gauge” regulates special attacks. In fact, there’s almost too much going on to keep track of at first glance; persevere, however, and you will be rewarded by an absorbing, wellhoned experience.
