iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus drop test: New Apple smartphones shatter like the rest of them

Apple may have gone for 'ion-strengthened' glass on both the new iPhones, but just makes them scratch resistant - not drop-proof

You may have everything you care to know about the bigger screens and faster processors on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but there’s still one question remaining: how do Apple's devices stand up to being dropped?

Although the first drop test might have been performed accidently by an excited fan, YouTube reviewers PhoneBuff have done their best to carry out more exacting trials – dropping both new devices on their backs, sides and fronts.

The results? Well, it's no scientific inquiry, but it seems that the new iPhones are a shade less durable than previous models, holding up well to being dropped onto their backs (the easiest test) but with the 6 Plus shattering after taking a tumble onto its side.
