Nokia-built 10-inch Windows RT tablet leaked
Codenamed 'Sirius', the tablet looks sharp but the price is more than a little off-putting
Friday 13 September 2013
If you thought that Microsoft’s £4.6 billion acquisition of Nokia was purely for the sake of smartphones, then think again.
A picture and technical specifications of a long-rumoured Windows RT tablet built by Nokia has finally surfaced thanks to technology blogger and author Paul Thurrott.
Thurrott listed the tablet, codenamed ‘Sirius’, under his ‘Fall 2013 Windows Tablet Preview’, and although the tablet (or the render of the tablet) looks attractive, it’s not a cheap option.
The Nokia Windows RT tablet will allegedly cost $499 (around £315), a steep asking price, especially considering that Microsoft has slashed the prices of their own Surface RT tablet to just £279.
For Nokia’s asking price though you do get some healthy specs, including a 1920 x 1080 10.1-inch full HD screen, a quad-core Qualcomm processor, and LTE (4G) connectivity.
There’s also a 6.7-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics included, and it’s said to work up to 10 hours on a single charge.
Keeping with the hybrid nature of Windows 8’s user interface there’s also said to be a “innovative multi-function cover with keyboard” in the works.
Whether this will build upon the successes (and fix the failings) of Windows’ own Type Cover is entirely speculative, but we can’t imagine that anyone would be thinking of building any Windows RT device without taking a hard look at where the operating system has already gone wrong.
