Winged device allows for smooth and controlled flight

Once the fantasy of science fiction, jetpacks are now very much a reality, and Swiss fighter pilot turned 'Jetman' Yves Rossy has been posting some incredible videos of himself putting them to good use.

His latest sees him soaring over Dubai, performing a synchronised aerial display with a plane and flying alongside Aerobatics Champion Veres Zoltán.

His jetpack doesn't bear much resemblance to the one envisioned in Bond movie Thunderball, really being more of a jetwing, which is strapped with engines that sit either side of the flyer.

Jetman has previously flown over Mount Fuji and round the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio De Janeiro,  launching from planes and hot air balloons.

It's been a good year for retro futuristic devices becoming a reality, with a working hoverboard also having been invented.
