The American NPD Group, GfK Chart-Track Limited of the UK, and Japanese sales trackers Enterbrain have combined their figures to produce a top 5 of best selling titles between July and September 2009.
1. Dragon Quest IX (Square Enix, Nintendo DS)
2. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, Nindendo Wii)
3. Madden NFL 10 (Electronic Arts, 360 iPhone PS2 PS3 PSP Wii)
4. Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver (Nintendo, Nintendo DS)
5. Halo ODST (Microsoft, Xbox 360)
Dragon Quest IX for Nintendo DS, officially released in Japan on July 11, tops the world charts with an astonishing 3.9 million units sold. The game also boosted sales of the Nintendo DS by as much as 150% during the following weeks.
Wii Sports Resort, the follow-up to Wii Sports, managed 3 million units worldwide. It was released on June 25 in Japan and a month later in other territories.
Madden NFL 10's strong sales in the USA propelled it to third in the chart, helped by its multiformat release across handheld and home gaming devices.
The latest additions to the Pokémon series, HeartGold and Soulsilver, have their sales figures combined. They are Nintendo DS remakes of the Pokémon Gold and Silver games that were released 10 years previously on the Nintendo Gameboy, meaning that previously unavailable in-game items are once more accessible to DS Pokémon players.
