The top free application by country* for the week, by number of downloads, recorded on March 29:

1. US
Shut Up Button (entertainment)

As the name implies, the "Shut Up Button" application is an application that will tell the people around you to be quiet when you press on the big yellow and black button. It also lists how to say "Shut Up" in 50 different languages, for those feeling like they need to be politically incorrect when they are travelling the world.

2. UK
Burning Bubbles Lab FREE (games)

Burning Bubbles Lab FREE is an ad-supported bubble-shooting game. Players try to explode bubbles by grouping three or more like-colored "toxic bubbles" together. Different-colored bubbles appear at the bottom of the screen and can be aimed and fired at the other bubbles on screen using the gesture controlled cannon. When all the on-screen bubbles have been exploded, players move onto the next level.

3. France
Je t'ai eu ! (entertainment)

It's up to you to decide if the weird and outrageous facts contained in Je t'ai eu ! (or "Gotcha!" in English) are actually fact or fiction in this quiz. "Has Pamela Anderson ever posed for Playboy?" or "is China the largest country in the world after Russia?" asks the app. Players attempt to choose if the question falls into the category of amazing but true or believable but false urban legend.

4. Canada

See "Shut Up Button".

5. Germany
Reingefallen! (entertainment)

See "Je t'ai eu !".

6. Australia
Chalkboard Stunts (games)

Chalkboard Stunts is a hand-crafted racing game for those who like to be creative. Players use the on-screen controls to power their vehicle forwards and backwards, to jump, to rotate up and down when in the air, or to flip the car back up the right way when it tips upside down. In addition to the 25 built-in tracks contained in the app the built-in level editor helps you to create and upload your own levels. You can also download new levels made by the developer and other consumers within the app.

7. Japan
69 Positions Lite - Sex Positions (entertainment)

69 Positions Lite - Sex Positions is a virtual guide that will inspire you to make love in new and original positions. The illustrated guide shows you 23 different sex positions that fall into the categories of "Oral", "Face to Face", "Rear Entry", "Butterfly Variations", "Cowgirl Variations" and "Exotic." There are also written descriptions to accompany the pictures to help you and your partner discover your next favorite sex position.

8. Italy
Scaldino FREE (entertainment)

Scaldino FREE (hand heater FREE in English) is an application that turns your iPhone into a mini heater. While the screen shows an image of a hot-looking radiator, your phone won't actually heat up (some people report they have experienced minor increases in heat, but nothing significant enough to really warm your hands up on a cold day).

9. China
??coolwo (entertainment)

??coolwo ("cool me" in English) is an iPhone portal that links Chinese web surfers to the "most exciting and rich" content on the net. Through the app people can read film, TV and entertainment news, see weather reports, read hundreds of popular fiction and classical Chinese novels. The app requires an internet connection (3G or WiFi) to run.

10. Netherlands
Jiskefet (entertainment)

The Jiskefet iPhone app is based on the Dutch comedy TV series of the same name. Consumers put their iPhone up to their mouth, with the screen facing outwards, and let the application's simulated lips and mouth speak for them. Users can also watch short clips from some of the old Jiskefet episodes within the app.

(*The countries listed are those markets in which the most iPhones and iPod Touches have been sold worldwide. The list of top ten countries is based on AdMob's November 2009 estimate of the worldwide iPhone and iPod touch User Distribution.)
