Health Update: Chateau Autoroute
WINE buffs risk lead poisoning if they choose vintages from vineyards near French autoroutes. In a study of 19 vintages of Chateauneuf-du-Pape from a vineyard at the junction of the A7 and A9, researchers found organic lead compounds at concentrations 10 to 100 times those in drinking water. The study, published in Nature, recommends vintages before 1962, when petrol contained little lead.
